How we insulate the attic with spray foam:
Spray Foam Polyurethane

Sprayed foam polyurethane is very effective in blocking water vapor and has a very high R-value per inch. Its versatile nature allows for the movement of the boundary between the conditioned and unconditioned space from the attic floor to the roofline. If your AC system is installed in an awkward area such as the attic, for example, then moving the envelope to the roofline can prove to be a good thing. This entire process involving attic insulation is a long, tedious procedure, and only experienced professionals can do it correctly.
Blown In Insulation
- Blown in or loose-fill insulation uses a machine to shoot a stream of loose-fill cellulose over an attic floor framing. It works very effectively in sealing up the small tight holes and areas that seem virtually unreachable. Again, this is a fairly complex task that should be left to the experts.
Blanket-Type Insulation
- The roll on or blanket-type insulation generally comes as 15-23 inch-wide fills of fiberglass batts designed to fit within the width of a typical framing. These insulations are very effective, particularly when there is an already existing one, which has not completely covered the attic air holes. If you already have an existing insulation, the batts will be rolled out at right angles to cover the framing members or studs. We always advise against self-insulation because an inexperienced individual is likely to compress the blanket material. Once this is done, they won’t be as effective.
